Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6K: The Logical Leap Forward
A KING USURPED
Blackmagic Design’s Pocket Camera was a tiny powerhouse that set the bar for small form factor cameras, but as times have gone on, the need for 4K is here and Blackmagic are delivering.
BLACK MAGIC AND HDR
The Pocket Cinema Camera 6K is the logical leap forward for this line of cameras, bringing stunning 4K video, with 13 stops of dynamic range and 4/3 size sensor, with an added boost with a dual native ISO up to 25, 600. But 6K isn’t everything without HDR support, bringing vibrant colours and accurate blacks onto yours and your audience’s screens, enhancing the viewing experience to the maximum.
Record in RAW
MAKE IT YOUR OWN
Ideal for shooting quick vlogs, web videos and expos or corporate videos, as well as producing high quality video when shooting sports or independent films, the footage is captured in RAW format and backed by Blackmagic’s colour science. This allows the Pocket Cinema Camera to rival massive, expensive cameras that cost thousands, while being easily mixed into projects using other cameras.
Buttons, Sensors, Form Factor
THE TINY KING
The Pocket Camera is as it sounds: tiny. This gives you far more portability, allowing you to get more unique shots on projects or even when in tight studio spaces. Just because it’s small, doesn’t mean it isn’t packing, as Blackmagic have fitted it with a 5″ screen, 4 built in microphones and recorders. There’s also all the buttons that you’d need, letting quickly get a hold of framing, focus, audio and file management.
DUAL ISO
Inside is Blackmagic’s 4K Digital Film Sensor, giving you a full 4/3 sensor to eliminate harsh crop factors and gives you a wider field of view. With the help of the sensor, you can record stunning 4K video at 60fps or a huge 120fps in windows HD. The sensor also helps in lowlight situations, giving you excellent performance when under the strains of a lack of light, which when combined with its Dual ISO, gives you a fairly decent image even in the darkest of places.
Storage and OS
STORAGE
You don’t even need to carry about large external storage options like before, as the Pocket Cinema Camera comes with a USB-C port, giving you the full breadth of its massive bandwidth capabilities. This allows you to connect portable SSDs, flash drives and pen drives to get even more recording time. Though, if you want to rely on your standard cards, you can record the 12-bit RAW, 30fps footage or Ultra HD in ProRes at 60fps on any UHS-II or CFast 2.0 media card.
OS
The Pocket Camera also packs the same Blackmagic OS as the much larger, bulkier URSA Mini. Get access to all the settings you want with the simple touchscreen interface. It’s not a stripped down, portable version, but the full thing, so going from the URSA to this is incredibly simple.
Hardware and Connections
INPUTS, OUTPUTS
But what about accessories? Well, there’s mounting points, a mini XLR input with phantom power as well as Bluetooth control.
